Mitsubishi Creates A Diesel Hybrid

Hybrid power, diesel power, and a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. Wouldn't it be the ideal trifecta? Well, the ever so popular sedan, which is also available in a quick new sportback hatch variant, is jumping on the "green" bandwagon destined for Puente Hills Mitsubishi in City of Industry, California.
In addition to the innovative hybrid system, Autocar reports the new Evo Lancer will feature a four-wheel drive system; integrating brakes, steering and traction control.
"The next Evo's hybrid/diesel powertrain is still something of a surprise," says Gas3.org. "To date, there have been no successful top-flight rally contenders running hybrid power, and the company's president Osamu Masuko (who withdrew from the World Rally Championship in 2005) has said that Mitsubishi has no desire to return to competition."1
Some believe that this revolutionary engine will not only create a rise in Mitsubishi sales, but may also be the ticket to bring the Japanese automaker to Rally Championships.
In addition to these plans, the Japanese automaker has seen moderate success with i-MiEV, which recently hit the streets across the pond. The all-electric vehicle is seeing an enormous amount of online and in-person advertising throughout America as well, and will be named Mitsubishi i.
