2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

There are two systems that drive the Outlander PHEV on the streets of Los Angeles and Ontario, CA. The gasoline engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that can act as either an engine or a generator to keep charged the twin electric engines located on the front and rear axles. The combined system can generate an estimated 197 horsepower. The twin electric engines are powered by a 12kWh lithium-ion battery pack and the twin motors lets the Outlander PHEV operate the Super All-Wheel Drive Control system which is standard. The PHEV is able to direct power from front to rear and side to side as needed to sharpen cornering.

The PHEV uses regenerative braking to recapture energy which helps recharge its batteries during operation. A toggle button on the on the steering wheel operate six levels of regeneration which can also help control your speed.

Hybrid technology

Charging the PHEV is as easy and plugging in any appliance in your home. The supplied, switchable 8-amp/12 amp charging cord can be plugged into a 110-volt home outlet or you can charge it faster when plugged into a 220-volt outlet. Parallel Hybrid Mode, the gas engine powers the front wheels and provide additional power to the twin electric engines. If needed, any CHAdeMO charging station can charge the PHEV up to 80 percent capacity in about 25 minutes. The LCD energy meter keeps you updated on the status of the battery.
